This appeared as a
comment in a previous diary, but in view of the PropaGannon interest, I thought it deserved a more thorough look.
It seems that the Pentagon, in the guise of "public interest" is running a propaganda channel on the DISH Network.
See below . . .
The Pentagon's chief psyops officer (PR) De Rita spins it thisaway:
EchoStar's Dish Network satellite TV service announced it is now offering the Pentagon Channel to its more than 11 million viewers. Programming will be distributed 24 hours a day, seven days a week as part of Dish Network's public interest channels. This means the programming will be provided at no cost to customers.
"We appreciate Dish Network's decision to carry the new Pentagon Channel on their satellite TV system," said Defense Department spokesman Larry Di Rita. "Their support helps us fulfill our mission of providing timely military news and information to the U.S. armed forces."
in a
news release for the Armed Forces Press Service.
Well, not just military and families, but in fact any DISH subscriber. So is propaganda, created and paid for by the Federal Government, legal? I thought they could only do this overseas. 24/7 programming is going to cost some bucks.
Or is it legal if it says where it's from? If the latter, what's to stop the Pentagon from just creating a new network? They can probably get the votes for the appropriation. The AAN, All American Network.
