Last night at Slim's in San Francisco was "Barbara Boxer Rocks" night. You see, this evening was supposed to be a CD release party, but when the members of Flying Other Brothers Band saw Senator Boxer hold Condi Rice accountable during SOS confirmation hearings, they changed the evening into a night "to honor Barbara Boxer and her courage to stand up to Condoleezza Rice."
Other performers were: Boz Scaggs, Bob Weir (Grateful Dead), G.E. Smith, Country Joe McDonald, David Nelson, The Court and Spark, and David Jacobs-Strain.
The music was great, and of course, had a very progressive message and some not so kind words about the Bush Aministration. But from my perspective, Senator Boxer was the star. Senator Boxer was in attendance and had a great time. She spoke halfway through the concert. She said the right wing radicals love to intimidate, but that she was not gonna back down.
Senator Boxer went on and talked about some of the fights ahead, and I thought to myself, "This is such a San Francisco event."
The thing is, it shouldn't be. We need more of our politicians to stand up to the intimidation tactics of the right, and we should have their backs when they do. Then we need to talk to our friends, our neighbors, our colleagues about it.
I won't get on my soapbox about this because I think I'm preaching to the choir.
Anyway, it really was a great night, and yes, Barbara Boxer rocks.
