While the entire nation seems to be up-in-arms over Terry Schiavo's unfortunate story, what about Houston's own Spiro Nikolouzos? Locked in a life or death battle of their own, Nikolouzos' family doesn't have the publicity afforded political footballs, and a very different Governor Bush worked on his case...working to find a way to pull the plug, rather than reinsert the tube. On March 9, a judge ruled that the hospital had the right to disconnect life support, despite his family's wishes. Right now, an emergency injunction is the only thing standing between them taking this action.
A nursing home has agreed to take Nikolouzos provided his family can show that he will receive Medicaid after his Medicare runs out.
As of today, he has been moved to a new facility.
Here we are again, playing follow the money, confronted by the fact that cash is the only God these hypocrites believe in.
Nikolouzos' story:

Not only does this man seem to have a better prognosis than Schiavo (from my admittedly limited understanding), but his injuries only date to 2001. And not a single family member has stepped forward to support that he wishes to die.
We need to make this an issue in the national media, the fact that the only reason Schiavo's life is supported by Bush and the Republicans is because it's bought and paid for. Lack of adequate payment to big bidness means automatic mercy killing.
