In case you think matters are moving too slowly on the whole Gannon scandal, here's a quick history lesson.
The original Watergate break-in was June 17, 1972. Five men were arrested by D.C. police after they broke into the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. The Washington Post published a story a couple of days later, pointing out that one of the men arrested was the salaried security coordinator for President Nixon's reelection committee. The White House went into cover-up mode, and denied that there was any connection.
In November, 1972, Nixon was re-elected.
Fortunately, Woodward and Bernstein kept the story alive.
It took until January 1973 for the cover-up to collapse with the indictments of McCord and Liddy. It wasn't until May 1973 that Nixon was forced by Congress to name a special prosecutor. The hearings went on for months. (I remember this part all too well.) Finally, in July 1974, articles of impeachment were introduced by the House Judiciary Committee.
Nixon resigned from the presidency on August 9, 1974, more than two years after the initial break-in and arrests.
Hopefully, it won't take as long this time. This is a very quick and sketchy chronology. I can post more details if people are interested in history.
