Remember Operation Rescue and the climate of terror they fostered at women's health clinics in the 1990s? Now they're
targeting public school children, all in the name of Christ.
Details below the break.
(My first diary -- mea culpa in advance, especially for any formatting problems, and constructive criticism welcomed.)
Apparently the group plans to protest at my child's school all week (I sincerely hope this is unfounded rumor). My stepson and a number of other students are very angry about their presence and utterly reject their message.
A number of the students want to hold a counterprotest. They are not organized, and I'm concerned that things may get out of hand. I'm going to contact some parents to brainstorm, and I'm also going to call the school office to ask what the administration and the school district are doing to handle the situation.
I am also incredibly proud that my child is responding in an engaged, outraged way to this perversion of Christ's teachings and this violation of the spirit of public education.
I would love some ideas about what I might do to support students in the face of this hate speech on their school's doorstep.
