Gag me. Lou Sheldon likes to spam me with his hateletter; it's an unsavory look into one of the darker corners of Pharisee thought.
While Delay apologizes for "heated rhetoric", it looks like at least part of the right-wing propaganda machine is swinging into action to defend him.
Flip it, flip it good. This one's shorter than the last one. Take the poll while you're at it.
Quoth the Lou-natic:
I consider Tom DeLay to be one of the most important Members of Congress. He is committed to biblical morality and is a strong ally in the battle to save our nation from the failed ideas of liberals, judicial tyrants, and moral anarchists.
The smear campaign against him has become more vicious in the press in recent weeks with charges that DeLay paid his wife and daughter for work on a political action committee. DeLay's hiring of his wife and daughter is perfectly legal under Houseethics rules. In fact, Democrats routinely hire family members to work for them.
Nice dodge. By attempting to reduce DeLay's ethics problem to hiring a family member, Louie gets to ignore the shady TRMPAC dealings, continuing veiled threats against the judiciary, on and on. Lou goes on to encourage his readers to write LTEs defending DeLay's hiring of relatives.
This one should be easy to blunt: line up all the other stuff we're really concerned about, and write a pre-emptive LTE. Bonus points for phrases like "right-wing hate groups are attempting to cast DeLay's ethics problems as 'hiring a family member.' That's not the issue, not even close." More bonus points for calling on your GOP rep to ask DeLay to step down voluntarily.
My concern is that shadowy groups like TVC, who attach themselves remora-like to churches, are able to swing a lot more weight than we know about. Thank God my church isn't involved (unless RevLou counts any church address getting his newsletter as an "affiliate").
