Just came back from a meetup for
Deval Patrick, running for governor in MA. And I'm asking you guys here for advice.
I can be kinda slow, so my question is below, in boldface so you can skip to it.
"Ultra-liberal MA!" you say? What help do they need? It's Dem through and through!"
No, Massachusetts has an ultra-conservative streak running though it, with no one higher local offices to show us that that is WRONG. This conservative bent is evidenced by having Republican governors for the past 14 years. Trust me, it's not because they've done great things. They haven't. The Dem contenders just, well, sucked.
Patrick appears to be a real progressive. He also was part of the Clinton admin. (assistant AG), which has earned him useful friends. And he seems to be wowing people with speeches lately. (I'll have my first chance to hear him at the MA Dem convention this Saturday.) These together bode very well for him to be a viable or even unquestionable alternative to that numbnut, Romney.
more - including the question(!!!) - after the fold...
And I tell you, his support seems to be growing without any advertising or anything. And it sounds like the assumed Dem candidate (Reilly) is not getting the unquestionable support I thought he would, which is good!
Now, it was a good (first) meetup. I spoke with the Patrick volunteers to urge them to "have a real web presence. Not just using the web as an ATM (though it is good for that, too) but also to communicate, organize, and inspire." They certainly though it was a good idea.
And I said "really, also become part of the blogging community - treat it like a constituency. Office holders like Conyers, Boxer, Slaughter, and Kennedy, have gotten great reactions by contributing to, for instance, Daily Kos. You might want to talk with some of their people, too." Also good ideas.
But here was the question: Will communicating about a "local" office (governor) be of any interest to a "national" community?
I had to say, I'm not totally sure. There's local MA bloggers, that I JUST started paying attention to (bad me!).
But is it worth the Patrick campaign occasionally chiming in here? Or will such a small state be lost, out of disinterest, in such a large national community?
Are there other alternatives to get his name out there?
I want to help with this, so any advice and suggestions would be really great!
Thanks!
