Everyone around here is having a fun time being hard on George Voinovich. After his teareful preformance on the Senate floor, there were many who mocked x as having "crocodile tears" in consideration of the fact he could have blocked Bolton in Committee.
Although Voinovich obviously doesnt support Bolton, I think he was hoping for something more.
I think Voinovich's conscience is starting to bug him. I think underneath it all, he has a problem not just with Bolton but with Bush's foreign policy. So he possibly naievly felt that he could swing his fellow moderate members around to opposing Bolton as kind of a more polite rebuke of Bush's foreign policy in order to send a message that is greater than just holding up John Bolton. Of course if this is his intent, it would appear he has grossly miscalculated. Although now they are saying some Republicans like Thune could vote against Bolton because they are ticked about base closings. So he may get a little company.
Or maybe Bill Frist just threatened to remove his pet pork barrell projects that an economically depressed Ohio very much needs.
