BBC News is reporting on a
'watered down' version of the G8 climate plans.
A version of the communique leaked in May treated climate change as a fact and pledged money to energy projects.
In the new version the words "our world is warming" appear in square brackets, meaning at least one country disagrees, and all financial pledges have gone.
It is clear from the article that the United States is putting pressure to bear on the G8 summit, putting Blair in the position of having to choose between his obligations to Bush and the stated priorities of the EU. His track record in this regard thus far is not encouraging.
If you are reading this and live in any of the G8 countries, now would be the time to bring pressure to bear upon your governments to express your displeasure at the idea of caving to the Bush administration. You should be able to find the appropriate information for your country at this
G8 information site.
