The Chicago Tribune is
reporting that state Sen. Carole Pankau and former DuPage County Recorder J.P. "Rick" Carney have withdrawn from the race. This leaves
DeLay supporter Peter Roskam, another as the presumptive nominee.
Strange tidbit in this story, though:
Pankau, 57, a Roselle resident elected to the state Senate last fall after a dozen years in the Illinois House of Representatives, said she decided to leave the race after analyzing results from a poll she commissioned a couple of weeks ago that showed her running even with Roskam.
Running even yet dropping out? Huh? Or did the results "analysis" involve cutting a deal?
Christine Cegelis, who won 44 percent of the vote against Hyde in 2004, and Peter O'Malley are set to duke it out in the Dem primary next year. Meanwhile, Roskam will face little scrutiny through Sept 2006 and will simply be able to amass a war chest. Sigh...
