Once again, the republicans may be winning before the argument even begins. As long as we're referring to Creationism using their preferred term "Intelligent Design", we're already fighting this battle on the defensive.
While everyone associates Creationism with the unscientific agenda of the religious right, "Intelligent Design" sounds like a new product, something more scientific. Both "Intelligent" and "Design" are words more associated with science rather than baseless religious nonsense.
By evoking their "Intelligent Design" frame even when we make an argument against it, we're shooting ourselves in the foot. We can't let them get away with it. Whenever they say "Intelligent Design" we should correct them; "you mean Creationism?"
We should never ever use the terms they supply us.
While we're at it:
It's an Estate Tax, not Death Tax
It's Tax giveaways to the rich, not Tax relief
We are pro-choice, not pro-abortion
They are anti-choice, not pro-life
It's late term abortion, not partial birth abortion
It's the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, not ANWR
It's Shielding Negligent Corporations, not "tort reform"
And on and on and on...
Ok, I'll shut up now.
