Every single one of us does. Every single person in the US does. Soon enough we'll find that the rest of the world does.
Because of the city? NO! BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE!!!!
You think I give a good god damn if you or I get to see Bourbon St again? Hear music in your favorite jazz joint? Fuck and NO. It's about the PEOPLE, Damnit; and a lot of people are dead and dying.
How many thousands are DEAD? And some are worried about a restaraunt. How many thousands are homeless? How many thousands are jobless? How many just saw their whole lives washed away by a careless wind blowing a careless sea?
How bout no more blaming Bush. Indirectly? sure thing he fucked up with Iraq and yep money had to be given back to the rich and pay for war games bu Bush did not destroy New Orleans singlehandedly or otherwise. Politicians make decisions, decisions have consequences and some of those consequences are tragic. Is this one of them? Indirectly, as the tax cuts, and Iraq were a bad decision that have and are having tragic consequences. But did the man sit down in 2000 with papa pickle and say "God I want to invade Iraq, cut taxes, and fuck NOLA out of some fed dollars so that if a hurricane strikes the city its as good as fucked." My guess is no. Its part of chain of events and nothing more. Congress had ample opp. to redistribute money. But stop pretending that Bush and Rove and Cheney and Rumsfeld et al, are all powerful. They are just humans. They are fallible. That they are truly the most obscenely evil humans on the planet is beside the point. Everything that goes wrong in the world is not Bush's fault though it is pleasurable to think so. BUT NOT RIGHT NOW!!!
Right now there is a person sitting in the dark of a building or house wishing beyond anything for one more chance, one more day, one more sunrise, one more kiss. Soon that person will fade and become a number on a morgue sheet after the body is found days or weeks from now.
Perspective, if that doesn't give you any what will?
I hope their are more survivors than victims, and probably their will be. But their is loss of life and their are people who are trapped, alone, terrified and doomed. The storm surge went over a mile inland in Mississippi. NOLA is a fish tank. Forty thousand homes are just rooftops and have been since Katrina came ashore. You think all those homes were empty? This isn't a biblical event...IT IS REAL, no act of god but an act of nature. Nature won and remains undefeated.
So by all means talk about things other than Katrina. But when talking about Katrina maybe the words "its" and "fault" shouldn't be used. Its Ma Nature's fault and she is immune from prosecution as she and her world will outlive all of us and all of our myths and all of our mistakes.
And another thing, show some reverance. The anger is fine but like I said people are dead, people are dying, people are homeless, broke, jobless and terrified. Help when you can. But lets treat this for what it is: A GRADE A 100% FCKING TRAGEDY.
