The above is a quote from Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), House Miority Leader, describing the President of the United States earlier this week. Madame Leader, I couldn't agree more. This simple, three-word description of the President and his entire administration has been patently obvious to we kossacks (at least most of us) for, well, for almost five years now. It is now time for all of us, especially the media, to awaken the rest of the citizenry to this stark and horribly frightening fact. The President of the United States
is oblivious, in denial, and dangerous.
More on Rep. Pelosi's exchange with the President and more below the fold...
It has become painfully apparent over the last 13 days (and for many of us, over the last 5 years) that the President of the United States has an uncanny knack for the ability to sink into a state of complete denial when anything does not go exactly according to plan or to the liking of the populace. There has been a recurring theme in this administration involving the statement, "Well, no one would have expected... (fill in mismanaged disaster here)". If I may be so bold, I would suggest that the President pass an executive order that no one in the Executive branch be allowed to utter any combination of these words which could, potentially be misconstrued. Of course, that would mean that they would probably have to admit some amount of culpability so, I highly doubt that he would take my advice. Alas, denial is not the only snafu this administration has been guilty of time and time again. There has been, through the course of this administration, a long and not so distinguished list of offenses perpetrated (ultimately) on the American people. Things like corruption, nepotism, and cronyism have been rampant in this administration. This brings us back to Rep. Pelosi's exchange with the President from this Tuesday.
In an exchange with the President, Rep. Pelosi noted that Mike Brown, the Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency had "absolutely no credentials". She then urged the President to fire Mr. Brown for his role in the travesty that the (non)response to hurricane katrina rapidly became last week. What, you may ask, was the President's response? In Rep. Pelosi's words, "He said 'Why would I do that?". She then pointed out that he should bear a great deal of responisbility for all that didn't go right last week. The President then had the gall to ask, Rep. Pelosi, "What didn't go right?". "Oblivious, in denial, and dangerous."(ABC) Absolutely goddamned right! I don't want to speculate as to what Rep. Pelosi's answers to the President's questions to her would have been but, I'm going to take a stab at answering them for him.
From the FEMA website:
The Federal Emergency Management Agency - a former independent agency that became part of the new Department of Homeland Security in March 2003 - is tasked with responding to, planning for, recovering from and mitigating against disasters.
From the FEMA profile of Director Brown:
As the head of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Under Secretary Brown leads federal disaster response and recovery operations and coordinates disaster activities with more than two dozen federal agencies and departments and the American Red Cross. He also oversees the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration, and initiates proactive mitigation activities. Additionally, Under Secretary Brown helps the Secretary of Homeland Security ensure the effectiveness of emergency responders, and directs the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Integration Center, the National Disaster Medical System and the Nuclear Incident Response Team.
From the International Arabian Horse Association:
With 46,000 members, the Arabian Horse Association (AHA) provides many opportunities for you to tap into the Arabian horse lifestyle. AHA is a full-service breed association and registry for owners of Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses.
Those not as informed as most kossacks may ask why I included that last paragraph. What does an Association dedicated to the ownership and breeding of Arabian horses have to do with hurricane Katrina or Emergency response as a whole? The answer is, of course, absolutely nothing and that is the point exactly. Mike D. Brown spent eleven years (the majority of his work history) as an attorney for the aforementioned horse owner's association. Mr. Brown is, however, a long time friend and legal advisor to the President. Apparently, in the mind of the President, this makes him uniquely qualified to respond to and coordinate the relief effort for a national disaster of biblical proportions. Getting back to the point, why should you fire Mike Brown Mr. President? Well, perhaps because he is woefully underqualified and quite obviously woefully beyond his depth in his ability to uphold the duties of his position. In short, because he screwed the pooch last week and hundreds (perhaps thousands) of the residents of New Orleans paid with their lives.
As to the President's second question regarding what didn't go right last week? I have to work next Monday so, I don't have time to give a complete accounting of what didn't go right last week. I would, however, submit to the President that it is NOT the fact that he had to miss part of his vacation or that his score on the golf course last Monday wasn't quite up to par.
"Oblivious, in denial, dangerous"
In my humble opinion, these three simple words perfectly encapsulate the Presidency of George W. Bush. Thousands of Americans have died in the streets of American cities on Mr. Bush's watch. I would submit to all of you and to anyone else who will listen that the Presidency of George W. Bush has been, not only detrimental to the American people but down right deadly. We, as American citizens, have been put in harms way as a result of the bungling of this administration for far too long. It is now the time for accountability! It is now the time for the American people to realize that the President of the United States does not have their best interests at heart. In point of fact, he doesn't give the citizens of the United States a second thought. He does not care! He is the most selfish narcissistic bastard to ever hold public office and it's time for him and all of his underqualified cronies to go!
