I just saw on C+L that Ned Lamont has two new ads out:
http://nedlamont.com/...
They are being played, supposedly, on T.V. Ideal T.V. ads, for a challenger that still needs to get name recognition complete, would showcase how this is a likeable guy, is good on the issues, and is a serious candidate.
The first ad- the one minute ad- lives up to very little of this goal. Although it will help with name recognition, Ned Lamont did not even MENTION Joe Lieberman in this ad. "Hi, I am Ned Lamont, and I am running for the Senate". Why is he better than Lieberman? What did Lieberman do the merit a primary challenge? We all know the answer, but, although Lamont is a great candidate, people are largely going to be voting AGAINST Lieberman, not FOR Lamont.
In this ad, also, Lamont at first appears angry. This is countered by the end of the ad, yet the end of the ad is ridiculous! People (including Markos) storm the house and start talking to Lamont. This might be good for an SNL skit, but DOES NOT portray Lamont as a serious candidate. It was funny, but I just do not see it as effective for a large part of the Democratic Party.
The Second ad is largely a negative ad. However, I think this is much better than the first. Lieberman deserves negative ads, and this is the way to get him out. If CT Dems saw his record truly, he would not come close to winning the primary. This ad shows how Lieberman is out of step with the Democratic Party. I think Lamont should have been shown a bit more in this ad, but it was alright.
Overall, I was disappointed with these ads! The Lamont Campaign must strike a balance-- some anti-Lieberman stuff and some Pro-Lamont stuff--- not one or the other.
