As you may recall, Ned Lamont invited Joe Lieberman to a pre-primary debate months before Joe finally accepted. Today, Lieberman challenged Lamont to a debate.
Surprised?
Wait.
According to The Middletown Press, as a reaction to Lamont's remarks made yesterday regarding Lieberman's role in the debacle that was Katrina, Lieberman wishes to debate Lamont on Katrina.
"Any time Ned Lamont wants to debate me about what each of us did with regard to Katrina, I'm ready for the debate," Lieberman said.
So Joe wants to compare and contrast what he--a US Senator, Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, and closet Republican--did regarding Katrina, to what Lamont--a Connecticut businessman, husband, father, son, all-around good guy--did regarding the same.
I'm not going to rehash everything Lieberman did that makes him complicit in the tragedy last summer. You can go to joejoejoe's diary (linked above) for that. But I will say this: Lamont had no professional obligation to do anything. A moral obligation? I think each of us who was able had a moral obligation to do something. For most of us, that involved money. Did Lamont contribute to a Katrina-related cause? I don't know. If he did not, does this mean he shouldn't be our Senator?
In a word, no.
Lamont appeared in New York yesterday at a benefit. I'd like to know what Lieberman has done that directly benefits Katrina victims.
I already know what he did that hurt.
