Bush just gave us more ammunition to use in 2006. In fact, our best strategy to taking back the house and/or senate could probably be our most simple as well. So what is this strategy I speak of?
According to
ThinkProgress.org, Bush again reiterated that capturing Bin Laden Is 'Not A Top Priority Use of American Resources'. This isn't the first time he's expressed this sentiment, but every time I hear it, the question that immediately comes to mind is, "Why not?".
After all of the demonizing the Republicans have done over the past 5 years, no single person is more on the collective consciousness of the American public than Osama Bin Laden. Amongst Americans, he is probably the most widely reviled person still alive. He was directly responsible for the deaths of over 3,000 Americans, the loss of a huge amount of property, and a huge blow to the American ego.
And Bush is telling us he's just not important enough to go after? That's like saying Japan wasn't worth going after when they bombed Pearl Harbor. Or Hitler wasn't worth going after when he gassed millions of Jews.
Consider Joe Blow, who doesn't really follow politics. He's not going to have any sort of intuition as to why Osama is no longer a target. He just knows that Osama was the reason for 9/11, the reason we're in Iraq (Joe Blow watches Fox News), and the reason we now hate Muslim people. He has developed a deep instinctual hate for Osama, and nothing would make him prouder as an American as to know we've gone and captured that bastard who dun it. And since he's watched Path to 9/11, he knows that Clinton should be hated because he wouldn't give the word to take Osama out (and thus implying that Osama should be taken out)
And yet here is Bush saying we're not going to work hard at taking Osama out? Could there be any better gift to have in 2006?
Why aren't we literally plastering the airwaves with quotes of Bush saying we're not going after Osama any more? Is there any better sign that we've already lost the war on terror? Is there any better sign that the Republicans have no clue what they are doing when they not only CAN'T capture the world's #1 terrorist, but they WON'T?
Seriously. I want to hear this quote from Bush every time I turn on the radio, see it every time I drive past a billboard, and both every time I turn on the TV news.
We're always struggling with how to reach the uninformed electorate who typically votes against their best interest.
THIS IS IT. This is our ticket to 2006. This is the absolute BEST way I can imagine to ingrain into the psyche of the average American that neither Bush nor the Republicans should be leading this country any longer.
So let's take advantage of this gift.
