As
atrios notes, the Congressional Research Service has concluded that Rep. Jane Harman is correct that, despite
Malkin's stupidity, Bush broke the law by not informing all of the Intelligence Committee about his illegal spying. Of course, none of this is
front page news for the Traditional media, but notice what is! Head below the fold for more.
Atrios, notes that an article about
smoking lounges deserves
front page treatment, while the
report by the nonpartisan CRC gets page 19. What struck me though is not what's below the front page fold, but the lead story,
"Inquiry on Clinton Official Ends With Accusations of Cover-Up." So while, Bush's fresh law breaking gets buried, we get reminded of the 21 million dollar, longest independent counsel in history, investigation into whether former Housing Secretary Henry G. Cisneros evaded income tax.
Kos points us to a good post about cowardice in the press. It is not just cowardice, but outright bias.
The real story is in the difference between the money spent on investigating the Clinton years vs. the Shrub years. This is best exemplified by the differences between money spent in the Fitzgerald investigation as opposed to the Starr investigation -- as Armando notes, 700,000 vs. 10 million yearly.
The bang for the buck story, leads to a simple mathematical conclusion: the Shrub Administration is more corrupt and the Republican controlled Congress of the 90's was on a witch hunt.
While I don't expect an ounce of fairness from the GOP, I at least hope the NY Times would show some equality in their reporting. I won't hold my breath. In fact, I expect it at about the same time Malkin apoligizes to Harman.
