I just received a very frustrating phone call solicitation from the DNC. I think there is a bit of a disconnect between their internet strategy and their fundraising phone call operation.
They asked if I could contribute $110. I said no, because I don't have that kind of money upfront, but that I WAS interested in the Democracy Bonds program Dean had set up, so that I could contribute $10 a month, which would add up to be more than $110. The caller had no idea what Democracy Bonds were and then put me on hold. He came back and said I could do that, that they would mail me something. I said can't I just do it by internet? I want to save you guys the postage. Plus, i move around a lot. He said no, because mail is how the party keeps in touch with you. I was like, well, you probably have the wrong address right now, so why can't I just do it by internet? He finally said fine, and abruptly hung up.
I wonder if there should be better coordination so that the fundraisers dealing with folks like me, who get their news online and like to contribute online and less through mail, are better prepared. the fact that he didn't even know what Democracy Bonds were was rather surprising.
