Any of you who lives in a competitive district knows that the GOP is pushing immigration as a major issue for November. While the more viruently anti-immigrant elements of the GOP claim that they are not racist or anti-Hispanic, this ad from the National Republican Congressional Committee shows plain well to what sick impulses they are trying to appeal.
The ad is against Tammy Duckworth in the Illinois 6th District and has been running for about a week in the Chicago market:
http://youtube.com/...
Seems like the standard arguments, that Democrat X supports "amnesty" and that that will cost the US billions for social services (like social security, which many illegal immigrants pay large sums of money into without getting anything in return, but that's beside the point).
While the footage of Mexicans being caught at the border is distasteful to say the least, perhaps the NRCC bigwigs would have a point that they are not racist because they are showing illegal aliens. Fine, let's give them that point.
However, the vile, racist nature of this ad comes out at second 15, with the following graphic:
All this picture shows is TWO LATINO MEN IN FRONT OF A SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK! WTF??? They're not showing illegal immigrants here, but just two Latino men (who have paid their dues to America no less considering that they are receiving social security) staring at the viewer! The implications of this disgusting ad are clear: it is trying to appeal to the lowest racist impulses of potential GOP voters! It's not saying that Congress should keep out undocumented immigrants because they came here illegally, it's right out saying that if you let Tammy Duckworth into office, then there will be more "brown people" in our society. Absolutely sick.
What's even more outrageous is that this ad isn't coming from one extremist candidate. No, it's coming from the fricking NATIONAL REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE! This is the national Republican party deciding to appeal to unadulterated racism to win an election. While this may not be surprising, this is a major issue, and this ad needs to be exposed to the public so that they can see the rotten core of the GOP.
I guess the GOP decided the time was right to give the coup de grace to any dwindling chance they had to attract the Latino vote. Please forward this ad to as many people as you know, especially in the media so that the GOP can't get away with this tripe any more.
