It's looking very much like the 16 year run of GOP Governors in True Blue Massachuetts will be coming to an ugly end.
Patrick opens a 27-point lead, poll says
By Andrew Ryan, Globe Correspondent
Democrat Deval Patrick has a commanding 27-point lead in the governor's race as independent voters abandon Republican Kerry Healey because of her negative attacks, according to a new poll released today by 7NEWS and Suffolk University.

These ads were notorious here in Boston, and almost laughable for their over-the-top fearmongering. I am of the opinion that they deliberately tried to associate Patrick (a black man) with the stereotypical fear of black men in our society, in an effort to win the suburban ring communities (the area between rts. 495 and 128) that broke heavily for Romney four years ago. Fortunately this time it looks like it's not going to work. And, indeed, it is refreshing to see, at long last, a linkage between negative ads and decreasing polls.
If there's any point to this diary, other than sharing the news, it would be this question: might this story indicate that negative ads only work if you're in the race to begin with? They'll help if you're within 5%, but hurt if you're 15% behind? Discuss.
