Elections in Idaho are usually about hope for the impossible and a solid Republican victory in November, but this year is different. We have a great group of people running and the Republicans are all vulnerable, both because of their own issues and because of the national mood. We may surprise everybody on a number of levels this year.
I've heard good poll numbers in the Congressional race in the first district and the Governor's race might actually be a race this year. It's very exciting, but what's really getting me excited is what I'm hearing on the Radio. Anti-Republican, pro-Democrat talk coming not from Air America or NPR, but from the Alternative Rock/New Music station, 100.3 the X.
Not too long ago there was a national morning show hosted by some guy calling himself Mancow. He was horrid, completely unfunny and in love with his own voice. I stopped listening to the station after a couple of times listening to him. He also seemed to have a very right-ward slant on things. Apparently so did a lot of other people, stop listening that is. Because after a few months of him the station asked the listeners what they wanted to hear. The overwhelming majority said get rid of Mancow and put on some local guys. So the put on Diablo and the Reverend in the morning slot.
Matt Diablo and the Reverend Ian are much better than that other guy. They talk about Boise and play lots of music. It's what I want to listen to on the way home from the nightshift at the factory. Lately they have been discussing politics as they cover the news.
They were talking about all of the canal deaths that have occurred recently in the area. While they were talking about that they made a joke about how canals were the most dangerous things in Boise. Worse than Meth and worse than Bill Sali. Yes, they called Bill Sali one of the most dangerous things in Idaho. And equated him as being as bad as Meth. Every day these guys are bashing on Sali. They mocked him for not believing in Global Warming and brought up the lies he told using Project Vote Smart.
They are helping out the Democrats a lot I think. Their favorite political commercial is Jerry Brady's "Idaho is not for Sale." They have been playing clips of Bush saying "stay the course" after he claimed to not say it. If we win Idaho by a couple of percentage points it could very well be because of the constant support from the radio DJ's on the X.
The debate last night for the candidates for the first district was pretty good. Most of the night seemed to be about attacking Bill Sali. Larry Grant got a couple of jabs through his way as well, but he did well. I loved how one of the reporters giving the question asked Bill Sali about Republican Bruce Newcomb calling him an idiot. Sali seemed a bit ruffled by that. Also the beginning was great because Sali made himself out to look like an idiot for failing to follow the rules even after the moderator asked him to behave, twice.
McJoan came out yesterday and live blogged with Larry Grant. I learned about it too late so didn't get a chance to meet her, for which I am extremely disappointed. Other than that everything is going great in Idaho and with some strong work over the next couple of weeks we should have a very blueish purple Idaho on the maps.
Give to Larry, make the Club for Growth cry.
