The Old Order is collapsing. The Way of the Wolf is rising.
Now is the time for people to rise up and vote their dreams and not their fears. Conservatism was always an ideology of fear -- fear of the unknown; fear of violent death; fear that everything we held dear would be taken away; fear of doing the wrong thing and being held responsible.
The wolf is the symbol of what we fear and what we can become. The wolf has always been vilified in children's nursery rhymes. Yet there have been no fatalities from wolves attacking humans in the 20th Century. Most of the attacks that did occur involved provocation, habituation, or wolves with rabies.
Conservatism is like the person who would freak out and shoot the wolf -- Conservatism imprisons people in their own fears, never allowing them to realize their possibilities. For the same reason, conspiracy theories must be rejected as well -- they arise from a paranoid outlook that assumes the worst of people.
Liberalism involves coming face to face with those fears and recognizing them as baseless. And the wolf is a symbol of Liberal values -- instead of working alone, it is more profitable to work together. For example, a lone wolf, while it can kill a moose on its own, cannot effectively stop other predators from feasting on the carrion. But if the wolf works with others, it can do so effectively.
In the same way, people fear sex because they fear the unknown. They imprison themselves in an artificial construct of abstinence and deny others the possibility of fulfillment as well. But people who face their fears will overcome those fears and realize their dreams, which create other possibilities.
And liberalism is inherently a way of life which involves caring and sharing. It is inherently a philosophy of joy, derived from living and learning from every person you run into. Wolves symbolize the love of adventure, of community, and of looking forward to what each new day will bring.
The same people who have killed 600,000 people in Iraq would also hunt and destroy these magnificent animals. The Bush administration has repeatedly promoted the hunting and destruction of the wolf, because they have a proven track record of preying on the helpless. Whether it is Mark Foley preying on minors, people in planes hunting and killing wolves, or the Bush administration killing off hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians, these all have one thing in common -- these all involve the destruction of innocent lives by people in positions of power and authority.
But now, the American people are rising up and rejecting the ideology of division and fear. They are rising up to restore the Constitution to its rightful place within government as well as restoring the respect for law and order that has made our country great.
Freedom does not involve compulsion, but trust in people to make their own life choices. Fear involves the lack of trust and is the breeding ground of tyranny. Fear leads to power and the desire to control and to dominate others and to claim for one's self things that they won't allow others to do. Freedom involves living and letting others live.
