I received the following letter from my US Senator Debbie Stabenow regarding the fact that in eight days there will be an election.
<more below the fold>
The letter read as follows:
Dear Michael,
We're in the final week of a long campaign. The last campaign ads are running. The debates are done. The newspaper endorsements are out.
We're closing in on a lot of important victories in Michigan and around the country, but we're not done yet. There are still 8 days to go and our opponent is clearly willing to do anything to try and win.
To combat this, we need our voters to turn out on Election Day. That's why your help is critical to making sure our Get Out The Vote efforts bring us a victory on November 7th. Contribute today.
In addition to the negative ads he's been running for over a month, our opponent brought President Bush in last week to raise a quick $700,000. That's a lot of money that he will put right back into his ads and into Republican voter turnout efforts. We need to be prepared to deal with it on Election Day.
We need your continued support to send a message to the President and to Mike Bouchard that Michigan supports Debbie Stabenow!
Debbie needs your help TODAY to pay for critical GOTV efforts, including:
Radio Ads
Staff and volunteers for door-to-door
Signs for visibility
GOTV phone calls
Click here to contribute $150, $100 or $75 for our Get Out The Vote effort today.
Please stand with Senator Stabenow today. Help us fight for Michigan workers. Help us fight for our middle class. Help us stand up to the Bush-Cheney-Bouchard team with a big win on November 7th by sending a contribution of $150, $100, $75 or whatever you can today.
Sincerely,
Nell Dority
Finance Director
Stabenow for U.S. Senate
Here was my reply:
I will not be voting for Senator Stabenow. Her votes in the affirmative on the Military Commissions Act of 2006, long with the her earlier vote on Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 determined for me who Debbie was watching out for. Herself! And her own re-election! The fear of those votes being used against her were of more import then her constituents, or the Constitution.
If I am going to be have my Senator vote like a republican I might as well vote for one.
I can assure you that she lost the vote of my wife, my two adult children, my mother, and at least four of my sisters.
As for donating, the $5500 in contributions we made this cycle to state and national candidates I am happy to say went to big "D" Democrats.
I refuse to go along to get along!
I refuse to look the other way on votes of great import!
I refuse to support a candidate who does not represent me!
I refuse to vote for any candidate just because they have a "D" after their name!
I refuse to GOTV for a candidate who does not represent me!
I refuse to donate to a candidate who does not represent me!
I refuse to used!
I refuse to be taken for granted!
I am angry, filled with purpose and passion, and will no longer accept those who take my vote for granted.
Politicians: you want my vote.. earn it! You want to keep my vote represent me first and your own best interest second. I am sick and tired of your silly games. I am an educated voter who will give as much respect to you, and your office as you give to me, your voter and employer.
If that makes you unhappy well so be it. It is my vote and don't you dare take me for granted because if you do I will either withhold my vote from you or give it to your opponent.
