It's time for a BIG change in Washington.
One of our bigger mandates this past Tuesday was to reform the budget. We've got to root out the corruption in the spending process and get down to some fundamental changes.
We need big-time reform.
No more earmarks. None.
No more corporate welfare. None.
No more farm subsidies. None.
No more bridges to nowhere. None.
No more no-bid contracts. None.
No more tax breaks for the wealthy. None.
No more missile defense shields that don't intercept missiles. None.
No more taxes that favour capital over labour. None.
No more propaganda departments at the Pentagon. None.
No more no-child-left-behind. None.
No more pork for the cronies back home. None.
No more $400Billion foreign policy adventures. None.
No more. Absolutely, positively, unequivocally - NO MORE.
:::
When Democrats assume control of Congress in January, they do so with a mandate for change. Not just change in Iraq. Not just a change in the way Washington runs. Not just a change in the partisan hackery. But a change in EVERYTHING.
And that includes a change in the way we balance the books.
Taxes will eventually go up on the wealthiest Americans, for sure. But if we're lucky, that might just help us break even. What we really need is to cut spending so we can run a surplus again and make a serious dent in our national debt.
EVERY Democrat ran on a promise to restore fiscal responsibility - and this is how we show the country not only that we can deliver on that promise, but also that we can do so liberally.
If we make these spending cuts in 2007 (and notice we don't have to "cut entitlements" like the Republicans are always crying), then we not only set this country back on the right track, but we also set ourselves up for a MONSTER run in 2008.
Bringing the nation into the black in only two years allows us to run a Presidential candidate in 08 who can credibly promise a massive overhaul of our healthcare system without anyone claiming we can't pay for it.
Imagine that - eliminate all of the crappy things the GOP wastes our money on, and set ourselves up to knock them down again 2 years from now.
It all starts with two words: NO MORE.
