Did you just hear what I just heard? Rick Santorum just conceded to Bob Casey in the PA-Sen race, implying that Casey would only be representing the state of Pennsylvania for "the next coupl'a months." What didn't I get? As far as I know, Santorum will still be representing Pennsylvania as a lame duck for the nest two months. What was he telegraphing? Martial law? Cancellation of election results? Legal challenges to the election results?
We voted this morning at 10:45AM in our very red 'Alabama, PA' precinct. We were told that the 'ES&S Model 100' optical scan machine had already broken down when it sucked in our ballots. A couple of hours ago we heard on MSNBC that Pennsylvania Republicans were claiming that there was a massive undercount of Republican votes. Did they rig the optical scanners in our 'Red T of Pennsylvania' to break down, to provide plausible cover for a legal challenge against a Bob Casey win?
I've never seen such a long line at our polling place; nor such a somber mood. Our waiting time (we always vote at the same time of day) was 2 1/2 times longer than usual. The only change in voting method was that we blacked in the ovals on our paper ballots with pen rather than pencil, and we subsequently fed the ballots into the ES&S scanner, rather than merely depositing them into a ballot box.
There are only 480 registered Democrats in our county, setting us up for a Republican claim of undercount of (R) votes. I don't know anyone here who isn't thoroughly disgusted with the corruption and ineptitude of the Republican party. Even my next-door neighbor, who has an autographed photo of George and Laura on her fridge, is fed up with our state delegation of Republicans. There's no way Santorum can plausibly claim there was an undercount.
"Next coupl'a months." What did Santorum mean?
