A primary school in the UK has caused quite an uproar for renaming their Christmas Party and calling it a "Winter Party," instead.
According to The Metro (the Tube's free paper, possibly related to the free papers available in America's subterranean train lines)
Parents were amazed to receive a letter from Hill View school in Bournemouth saying the word 'Christmas' would offend people so the event name had been changed.
The note even wished everyone a 'very happy holiday'.
The article continues going through the standard right-wing clap-trap about being a Christian country (which, technically, England is, since the Queen is, officially, the head of the Church of England), and being offended that people could be offended by the word "Christmas." One wonders if the people making these arguments ever consider that it might be nice to try to include everybody, not just Christian.
'I'm not prepared to bring my child up in a school that regards political correctness as important.'
Yes, that's right, even over here in the polite UK, people are offended by efforts to not offend people. I wonder what America's right would think about this? After all, they're diametrically opposed to using Europe as a positive example for anything, but on the other hand, I suppose they could just point to this as more evidence of a worldwide war on Christmas.
And finally, that same article ends with this:
Meanwhile, Muslim MP Dewsbury Labour MP Shahid Malik was yesterday congratulated in the Commons for sending a card marked 'Merry Christmas'.
Happy holidays everybody!
Update: Stewsam in the comments points to a Guardian piece about the falsity of the War on Christmas that seems remarkably applicable to America's War on Christmas.
