The 12th seeded UH Rainbow Wahine move on to the NCAA volleybal regional finals after upsetting USC 28-30, 30-21, 21-30, 30-27, 15-5. All-American setter Kanoe Kamanao topped it off by serving 11 straight points in the final game.
Much will be made of Jamie Houston's career-high 35 kills (and there's no doubt that her arm won this match),but my favorite game moment was when the 5'8" setter solo stuffed 6-foot-3 middleblocker Bethany Johnson in game 4. ROOF!
One of the 7000+ strong crowd's favorite is freshman libero Jayme Lee. The local girl threw her 5'2" body around the court with some amazing digs. Not bad for someone who was playing at Sacred Hearts high school this time last year.
Tomorrow na Wahine meet arch-nemesis UCLA in the regional finals. UCLA swept UH in the pre-season Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic back in September.
This is the lowest that na Wahine have been ranked in years, but this time, instead of being bored silly in the lame-ass WAC with no competition, they actually IMPROVED! Tomorrow night's match against the Bruins is going to be nothing like the disaster in September.
