Robert Novak just published his latest column, and it is a doozie. Instead of outing an undercover CIA operative, Novak has decided to go right after the most vocal war critic in Washington, DC.
According to Novak, Rep. Jack Murtha (D-PA) is a corrupt politician and has the other Dem's worried. And his big revelation?
Jack Murtha proves there are second acts in American politics. I had forgotten that federal prosecutors designated him an unindicted co-conspirator in the Abscam investigation 26 years ago. (my emphasis)
More after the flip.
According to Novak, Murtha can't be trusted because he was involved in the ABSCAM scandal in 1980. Murtha wasn't convicted nor indicted. He wasn't even charged with an ethics violation in the House.
Novak would have us believe that somehow Murtha's involvement with ABSCAM is a big revelation. Gee, how could that be considering the information has been readily available on Wikipedia for some time?
The Douchebag of Liberty then goes on to tell us that Murtha uses his service as a veteran as a battering ram against his opponents and brings up Murtha's showdown with Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX):
Rep. Louie Gohmert, a freshman Republican from Texas, had the temerity to suggest that had Murtha "prevailed after the bloodbaths in Normandy and in the Pacific ... we would be here speaking Japanese or German." Murtha pounced on Gohmert, asking whether he had been in Normandy, Vietnam or Iraq as a combat solider. The Republican had not, and he meekly thanked Murtha for "all that he has done with the wounded."
Novak attacking Murtha for something 26 years ago?
I guess he needed to reach back that far to stain someone in order to get people to forget how he exposed a CIA operative just a couple of years ago.
I'll take Murtha over Novak any day of the week.
