I'm an educated Catholic; I studied Moral Theology as a seminarian and left to be a lay person after I'd passed all priestly studies. (Cum permissu superiorum.)
I am sure in my heart that life starts at the moment of conception. It's my belief, therefore, that abortion is wrong.
But that's my belief.
I also believe in free will. St. Thomas taught that we have an obligation to follow our conscience. If someone else can, with a clear conscience, opt for abortion, I cannot make a law that forces her not to.
The entire discussion, for me, comes down to a separation of church and state. My church--and my conscience--tells me that abortion rarely can be justified. The state cannot legislate about matters of conscience. (That includes legal unions between two consenting adults, by the way.)
So for the future, here's my proposal: The slogan should be not Pro Life or Pro Choice. It should be Pro Conscience.
Sound reasonable?
