Tonight was the second Not-So-Fancy-Farm event, held annually in Lexington, KY, and hosted by the Democracy for America (Change for Kentucky) group. Our excellent State Treasurer, Jonathan Miller, was kind enough to recruit Sirota to be the key speaker at the event. Follow below the fold for details...
While we were waiting for Sirota to speak, various candidates from around the state made stump speeches or offered commentary on current events. The BBQ was good and the beer was free - and the company was outstanding.

DFA-endorsed candidate Amy Shir received a $1000 check from DFA national (presented by me, the Louisville DFA organizer). Amy offered a message of hope, imploring the gathering (of nearly 200 people), "Don't give up on Kentucky."

Lt. Col. Andrew Horne, a primary candidate in KY-03, who was endorsed by the local DFA folks but was defeated in the primary, renewed his commitment to grassroots politics. "I spent the last 27 years in the Marines, fighting for my country, and I'll spend the next 27 years with you, fighting for our democracy."

In addition to those great speakers from Louisville, candidates from around the state made their pitches. A few potential gubernatorial candidates were courting the grassroots volunteers, and feeling out the support levels for their primary runs in 2007.
Andrea James, who is running for Lexington City Council, was the big surprise of the evening for me. She was incredible! A charismatic, intelligent, and caring person, she is a true citizen candidate who owned the stage while she was up there! She belongs in a higher office than City Council - that's for sure.

Please get on with it, you say. What about Sirota, you say. Okay. Sirota covered some of the key points in his book, which I purchased and got signed. The book is great! You should all purchase a copy. Sirota was also very nice. I wondered if he would be mean after watching the way he stomped on Stossel. But he was quite charming. I think he was also a bit stunned by the size of the gathering in a red state, in the midst of rainstorms, in the outdoors! He was impressed at the determination of the group, and encouraged us to take a long view, as the battle against those who have taken over our nation will be long and arduous. Sirota kindly thanked me for notifying the 1200+ Dean donors in Louisville about the book signing he is doing on Thursday in the "Ville."

Anyway, keep up the good fight, and get Sirota's book. It will help you wage your campaigns against the Hostile Takeover!
