When I went to bed last night, it was - oh - 1981 or so. You know, high deficits, a crazy cabal in charge of the country, the US creating tension in the world, high gas prices, etc. etc.
However, when I woke up this morning, it was 1950.
Wha' happened? I feel like I'm in the movie, "Back to the Future", except this movie has no gag lines or cool sets.
To be fair, though, the voice that woke me up had, at first, a comforting sound, as it said, "Do not adjust your set. We are in control. We control the horizontal." Like Nick Danger, Third Eye, says, "Then it hit me." Ouch!
Why, you ask, do you think you're in 1950?
Well, our Texas State Attorney General, Greg "Corporate Shill" Abbott, is about to rule on whether or not abortion, under the new, more restrictive Texas laws, is murder. Yes, dear friends, the Kool-Aid drinkers are in charge.
Perhaps NOW you see why David Van Os' candidacy for Attorney General matters not only to Texas; this precendent-setting ruling, if it goes forward, will affect the entire country.
Briefly, the article says says:
A law passed in 2003 said killing an "unborn child" at any stage is capital murder; but it also said performing a lawful medical procedure could be a defense against that charge.
Then, a law passed last year tightened the ban on doctors performing third-trimester abortions (with a few exceptions) and banned them from performing abortions on minors without parental consent or a court order.
Because such abortions are no longer lawful, doctors who perform them could be subject to murder charges, the Texas District and County Attorneys Association says in a written guide to laws passed in 2005.
Even the Rethuglicans, though, are a bit concerned, but not for reasons you might think; in Texas, doctors are a huge Rethuglican lobby force, so
Could Texas doctors face murder charges for performing late-term abortions or abortions on minors whose parents have not consented?
House State Affairs Committee Chairman David Swinford, R-Dumas, doesn't think so, but he's concerned that's how a statewide prosecutors group is interpreting legislation passed last year. Swinford has asked Attorney General Greg Abbott to weigh in with a formal opinion.
A Republicker
concerned?? Now, I'm sure I'm in the Twilight Zone.
Please, support David Van Os for Texas AG. He accepts no corporate money, and while Abbott has about $6,000,000 in his campaign chest, DVO is running on just over 4 figures.
Lastly, we need to reframe the debate about abortion and get rid of the 'unborn' and 'preborn' and 'baby' labels for fetuses. The Reich got this vernacular started as a way of reframing, and - as usual - they did an excellent job. We need to take the debate back.
