... so here I am, writing a diary. Do I always do what people on DKos tell me to do? No, not hardly. I don't even always do what
I tell me to do! I'm a bit on the contrary side that way. Tell me I
must do something, and I am just as likely to do the opposite.
However, I was hanging out in Top Comments last night, and mentioned that I have been fighting a stupid summer cold for the last couple of days. I also mentioned that I might stay home today, to give my body a chance to continue to heal itself. With asthma, I don't like running myself into the ground and trying to work with upper respiratory problems. Not smart. So, I'm staying home. And someone suggested I write a diary ...
And here I sit, thinking over the diaries and comments I have read over the last few days on DKos. I'm sensing quite a theme here - we're all frustrated, overwhelmed by the chaos that our country (and the world) have been thrown into by the Bush administration's policies. Clammyc's diary that I just read is a good example of this. He's frustrated to the point of meltdown, and I don't blame him. Others have expressed their frustration in comments.
Global warming is becoming a reality to many people across the nation, and around the world. Record temperatures are bringing it home to us in a way that many had never envisioned in their lifetimes.
The economy, despite the rosy pictures painted by the Bushites, is not so rosy at the personal level for millions of us impacted by the conservative economic agenda.
We see and hear more and more lies, scandals, obfuscations, and downright evil coming from the mouthpieces of the right. How do we begin to combat this? Abramoff, Diebold, DeLay - the list could go on forever.
Along with our political grassroots efforts to make changes in our country, there is something else we need to do.
We need to take care of ourselves.
By this, I mean that we need to spend time with those we love (not just on DKos, MLW, etc.), and spend time recharging our emotional batteries by doing the nonpolitical things we love. What do you do for fun? Ride a bike? Knitting, sewing, woodcarving, painting? Remember that your hobbies are part of what makes you what you are.
In other words, remember to take a break. But don't forget to come back! We need our members to be strong, and ready for the fighting times ahead. The fight will always be there - we need you to be there, as well.
If you got to the end of this without falling asleep, I commend you. Thanks for reading my braindump.
