I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of folks out there who are just as shocked as I am about the legislation that Senator Specter is proposing regarding the unwarranted spying on American citizens by the executive branch of our government. I won't go into the details of this legislation or why I think that it's in violation of our Constitution, because my hunch is that almost everyone here is already quite familiar with this issue. What I'd like to suggest is a relatively simple idea that could get a lot more sunshine directed toward the nefarious characters who are currently engaged in attacking our precious Constitution.
If this bill comes up for a vote in the Senate, there's been some of talk that the Democrats might filibuster. I think that this is a good idea. In my mind, it's a MUST DO. But instead of using the modern day filibuster, how about going back to the traditional filibuster? You know the kind where a single speaker sometimes went on for hours and hours? He would be followed by speaker after speaker who would each talk at great length.
Now I know that in the past sometimes what these speakers talked about had little or nothing to do with the issue at hand. They were simply trying to run the clock out and wear their opponents down. But I think that we're in a really unique situation here. This is possibly one of the most important issues facing our nation in a very long time.
Let's have our senators take the stage and talk to the country. I mean really talk! And then talk some more. Explain to the American people what sort of crime is about to be perpetrated upon us all. CSPAN would cover it non-stop and even the MSM might have to give it coverage proportional to what a major event this would be.
I guess what I'm suggesting is that our guys in the Senate need to take the bull by the horns and show a little chutzpah. Think about it. This really could be a golden opportunity.
