Listening today to NPR, I heard a constant theme of their programming and that theme was Bush's plan for a "New Middle East." Expressed by Condoleeza Rice in a single, chilling sound-byte heard throught the land of Islam.....
"It is time for a new Middle East," she said. "It is time to say to those that don't want a different kind of Middle East that we will prevail. They will not."
The Washington Post
I don't know what that may mean to this administration, perhaps it means the whole of the Middle East will be under the reign of the US/Isreal....?
Perhaps it means a united Middle East vowing to conquer the invaders/occupiers....(US/Isreal)
Maybe it means scorched-Earth style extinction....I don't know!
What that meant to Ms Rice we can only speculate but those who remember George Bush Senior's comments in the run up to the first Gulf War of the opportunity to create a `New World Order', the words were a chilling insight into U.S. thinking. The scenario that the Americans and Israelis hoped for are not too hard to imagine. They would have been hoping desperately for the democratically elected government of Lebanon (with 2 Hezbollah cabinet members) to have asked for assistance in disarming Hezbollah; thereby giving the Israelis and quite possibly the Americans the long dreamt of day when they could invade and bomb Lebanon.
Al Jazeera
There is something bigger going on, as the Middle East rages in battles, sides are being taken, lines are being drawn and our soldiers are smack dab in the center of it. With more troops on the way. We are nowhere near peace, we are only just beginning the oil wars.
