...or "What would Sun Tzu do?"
Sun Tsu's
The Art of War graces the library of many progressive homes these days.
The Art of War is an ancient book on military tactics. When I look despairingly at the plunder and waste of neocon empire I sometimes ask myself, what would Sun Tzu do?
The first thing that he would do is to examine the opposition for their strengths and weaknesses. We spend a great deal of time discussing the neocons' weaknesses, but what are their strengths?
One strength seems to be their faith in their plan, no matter how hare-brained. It is a faith that is based on a false-belief in political aggression. Cheney/Rummy/Bush, taking control of the world-situation, causes a warm-fuzzy for the ruling culture. Neocons can always depend on solid political support from a certain part of the country. The ignorant get blissful feelings from authoritarianism. That is definitely a strength.
What do progressives have to counter the neocons' strength?
We have a belief in the truth, even when the truth proves us wrong. We have faith in facts that are based on science and corroborating data. We have reality.
That should be worth something.
