As Karl Rove and the Conservative Noise Machine become more exposed, we see more and more of the fraud that has been perpetrated in the name of neocon supremacy.
IMO, this is their primary weakness: the credibility of the propaganda on which their power depends, is only as strong as the credibility of the source of the propaganda. In this case, FOX News is the primary purveyor of misinformation.
Americans who throw the loudest tantrums, and are the most misinformed about what is happening in the real world, are the viewers of FOX (FAUX) News. These are the confused folk who call for the lynching of supreme court justices, who are merely trying to protect their civil rights. They don't have a clue. And that's the way Karl Rove likes it.
There was a study in 2003, which showed a large discrepancy in factual knowledge about world events, between viewers of FAUX and others sources of news. This is from a commentary by Jim Lobe about the study.
For each of the three misperceptions, the study found enormous differences between the viewers of Fox, who held the most misperceptions, and NPR/PBS, who held the fewest by far. Eighty percent of Fox viewers were found to hold at least one misperception, compared to 23 percent of NPR/PBS consumers. All the other media fell in between.
It is interesting to note the statistical difference between FOXNews viewers (henceforth referred to as FOXNation) and all other Americans with regards to facts.
There is a startling number of FOXNationalists who still believe that Saddam had WMD's and was conspiring with Al Qaida, despite admissions to the contrary by
Bush himself.
FOXNews has provided a red, white and blue bully pulpit for the propagandists to spin their deceptive and manipulative stories.
If FOX ever lost its credibility with FOXNation, the power of Karl Rove and the Conservative Noise Machine would be significantly diminished.
