News from the front lines! Today we held the pro-John Murtha
rally against the "Vets for the Truth" and their false accusations against Congressman Murtha. May I first say that I have never been more proud of Pennsylvania district 12, the city of Johnstown or Congressman Murtha. This truly was Western Pennsylvania politics at its finest.
We had roughly 200 Murtha supporters outside of Jack's office, which was huge for such short notice. It was considerably better than the 10-20 people gathered across the street at Cambria County Republican Headquarters, where the "Vets for the Truth" held their rally. Here is the
video to the story. This video, however, cannot even begin to describe the atmosphere at the event.
As I have mentioned before, I am a young activist here in Cambria County. For the past 3 days we have been gearing up for this event in every possible way we could. You name it, we did it. Nothing prepared me, however, for the scene I witnessed this morning as I walked to Jack Murtha's office. It seemed as if people all across the district, many veterans included, had come out to support our Congressman. "I won't back down" was blaring out of several huge speakers and people were pissed and pumped for Jack. I refer to it as a rally, not a protest, because this was truly what a rally should be. It was so very well orchestrated, with powerful speakers, water, and lunches for everybody who showed up.
Sen. Max Cleland was terrific and was a great way to end the rally. To roughly paraphrase him, "I wasn't wounded in Vietnam; I just went duck hunting with Dick Cheney."
The opposition was defiantly threatened and their plan backfired.
"Vets for the Truth" clearly had underestimated the strength of support for Congressman Murtha. In one instance, Larry Bailey, the president of the lying bastards, came over to our rally and held an anti-Murtha sign. My good friend and fellow activist, Justin, saw this and got in front of him to drown him out. Larry Bailey then proceeded to shove him and throw his elbow into Justin's face. Bailey was clearly threatened, got into several arguments until the police started to follow him. He left our rally, visually pissed off.
Congressman John Murtha could use everybody's support. We need to end these swift boating tactics once and for all, and I think this is the race that will finally do it! Please help out
Congressman Murtha in any way you can!
