Hello from Southern Connecticut!!!
I rarely diary but I just had to write you all from the Lamont offices in S. Norwalk to report that things have been going fast and furious as we come down to the wire on this race. We've been phone banking, and canvassing and organizing and GOTVing all day and the anticipation is palpable. It's pretty exciting around here, and I do want to tell you all about it (and will say a bit more below the fold). But mostly I'm writing to say, we need your help!
I've really enjoyed volunteering here today. The small, energetic, dedicated staff (only 6 here in Norwalk) led a great group of volunteers from CT, but also from Westchester and Brooklyn (me!) and as far away as Delaware through a day of calling, postering, canvassing and all the classic campaign activities (pizza and donut eating included). Out on the street I was heartened to meet people who really are ready for this change. I even met a guy from Texas who voted for Bush twice--and though he can't vote in this primary, he still told us he hopes Lamont wins. There's a huge sense of history being made here--but only if we get it done tomorrow. These last hours are critical!!!
I'm not able to be here tomorrow, though I spent a good part of my day preparing packets and organizing materials for the people who will be. That's where you come in:
If you think it's too late to do anything, or you can't affect the course of this campaign, think again!! The folks here in S. Norwalk really need your help tomorrow. They especially need people who can help at the polls. So if you are in the area--in Connecticut or New York or anywhere nearby, come on over! I can tell you it's just a little over an hour train trip from Grand Central to S. Norwalk and the hq is a short walk from the train station (email me and I'll send you directions). So if you are anywhere in or near the area, and you've got any time (even early in the AM before work, I deeply encourage you to do this. They'll train you, they'll teach you--they just need you to show up.
If you can make it please write norwalkpolls@yahoo.com--leave a contact number and when you think you will be able to come. If you can't do that but by some fluke you can get here tomorrow, come anyway! There will definitely be something to do.
[I had to interrupt the writing of this diary--Ned just stopped by to thank all the volunteers for their hard work. He's everything they say--warm, good-hearted, smart. I'm so thrilled to be a small part of this].
I better give up the computer to someone who needs it even more--so this is DL/NYC signing off from Lamont Central!
[UPDATE:] Guess who just showed up? Lipris--another Newawker! Howzabout it NYC? Come and show Ned some love!!!
