Just breaking on CNN right now...sadly, the great former Governor of Texas from 1990 to 1994 has passed away form her ongoing battle with esophageal cancer.
Will post more when a link is available or delete if there are more diaries...
Terrible terrible loss. She was one of the most funny, articulate, and strong women that our party has ever been lucky to have. George Bush only wished he could have been a fraction as a good a governor of Texas as she was.
May she rest in peace. Let's send Ann a message that she will never be forgotten and appreciate all that she gave to the Democratic Party.
UPDATE: Here is a link to the story.
Former Texas Gov. Ann Richards -- the witty and flamboyant Democrat who went from homemaker to national political celebrity died at her Austin home.
Richards was 73.
She died Wednesday night surrounded by her family after a battle with esophageal cancer, family spokeswoman Cathy Bonner said.
UPDATE II: Thanks for all the comments to this diary. We show once again how much of a great community we are by giving Ann Richards the respect she deserves; there have been some fantastic tributes posted.
Also the family of Ann Richards has requested that that memorial gifts be made to the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders through the Austin Community Foundation, P.O. Box 5159, Austin, Texas 78763, 512-472-4483, or at www.austincommunityfoundation.org
