We all know that Congressional and Senatorial staffers check in on DailyKos from time to time to take the pulse of the netroots. I propose that we give them and their public-servant bosses a little something to chew on.
We need to make it clear that we are willing to sit out the '06 congressional election over this issue. A democracy that conducts torture as a matter of public policy is not one that deserves our participation.
I'm not asking you to do anything as labor intensive as calling your Representative or your Senator. I'm not asking you to take up a sign or a banner, nor to send a letter or a postcard. I'm just asking you to take the pledge, right here, right now, in this thread, just like I'm going to do right after the jump...
Just put your representative's name and district in the title, like this:
Cong. Alan Mollohan (WV-01)
And in the body, make it clear that your elected representative will lose your support if he or she supports torture and the suspension of habeas corpus, as in:
If you vote for torture, I will not vote for you. I will ask my friends not to vote for you. When the party comes to me for money, I will tell them no, and I will tell them why.
Or your own words, however you feel about it. Maybe you'll vote for your representative anyway. Feel free to say so and say why.
