And boy, has he changed.
"Off to the side stand three burly guys in dark suits with Secret Service-style earpieces. When a door by the stage opens, the guards leap into action. They surround the man with slicked-back hair who emerges and escort him to his seat. When the crowd spots him, it goes wild. People chant, "Lord! Lord! Lord!" Now, as someone who tries to let her faith inform her actions, I found this article more than a tad disconcerting.
The Jesus of the Gospels has gone from an advocate of the poor to a full-blown capitalist. Apparently he has his own 24/7 TV channel now.
During Jesus's first lifetime, his followers dedicated their lives to challenging the status quo and helping the poor and the sick. In their latest incarnation, Jesus's followers have decided to dedicate their lives to the almighty dollar, creating close to 500 businesses.
Jesus, in his first go-round, was famous for saying "Get thee behind me, Satan!"
In this go-round, apparently,
Jesus is going by the moniker Antichrist, even tattooing his arm with the numbers 666.
Now, I realize some here might feel this diary would be more appropriate over at StreetProphets.
But think about the implications here: if this story about Jesus the Christ is true, and he is really back among us (and why wouldn't the story be true, because after all it's in Newsweek), then what does that say about all the time we here at Kos spend fighting on the side of the angels?
If Jesus is against our fights against oppression, then who the heck is for us?
Is it time we all registered as Republicans and started tithing to this guys's church?
