Imagine a congressional district where one party controlled the voter lists, the jobs and working conditions of all the voters, and held the power to determine whether or not their children were going to have the money for college, a dental visit, or even their parents home from work at a decent hour.
Imagine this same congressional district, in which the other party's organizers had little access to the voters or even an address list that told you where the registered voters lived, let alone a list of the potential voters.
Imagine that these organizers and the voters they tried to mobilize could be fired at will, have their home and family disrupted, and have their pay and benefits cut. Those voters willing to go along with the party in charge can legally be bought off with small perks - at least until the challengers have given up or lost their jobs.
And if, by some chance, the challengers actually win the election, imagine the defeated incumbent getting to refuse to step down and forcing the challengers to initiate years of litigation to actually take office in an election they won....
...This is what it's like to run a union recognition campaign under today's "secret ballot" NLRB.
The Employee Free Choice Act aims to fix a lot of these problems with card check, stiffer penalites for employers that violate workers' right to organize, and an expedited process for handling first contract disputes.
The Employee Free Choice Act is being voted on tomorrow. Call your representative and let them know that you want them to vote YES on the Employees Free Choice Act (HR 800).
Change to Win is running a national campaign to contact every member of the House to tell them to support the EFCA. The call is free - Change to Win is picking up the tab I beleive - the number is 1-866-699-9243. When you call, there will be a message from Change to Win and then they will transfer you to the House operator. Tell them to connect you to the office of your representative.
If you do not know who your rep is, use this website: http://www.house.gov/...
If you want to read more about the EFCA: http://www.changetowin.org/...
UPDATE:
As CapitolDragoon points out in the comments, Redstate has had a lot of coverage of this. The GOP will try and punish those new Dem reps in red districts who are on as co-sponsors. We have to let them know that we have their back. That's why it's important to make the call.
