Citizens refuse to pay taxes: Group: Giving money would support war
Several local residents are withholding tax money as a way to protest the war in Iraq.
Instead, they will donate money they may have gotten back this year from the federal government to the St. Clair County Library System. Symbolically we're saying education is important. Even though President Bush says education is important, we're spending millions more in the war and all the schools are being cut back. We are saying you can put your money where you think is right.
A spokeman for the IRS said withholding taxes can cost people alot of money, depending on each individual case whether it would be criminal or civil penalties only. These people are heroes, who do not support the war and realize there are options out there instead of waiting for an election year.
Wow, and I do mean Wow.
