I don't have much to say on this topic, but the question has been bothering me lately. All this talk about the GOP (and others) approving torture... it kind of raises the bar on what it means to be in the armed forces. If we're going to torture, it means our enemies will feel more enabled (or emboldened) to as well. Yeah yeah, I get that some of them were already, but this is sort of a cycle of permissiveness. Us torturing would hardly reduce the likelihood that others would torture us.
So my question is more about what this means in terms of the willingness to join the armed forces. Poll is below. Insights appreciated. Further explanation below the flip.
I guess I see my poll choices as analogous to the question of whether you would join the armed forces if there were a great need. If death, injury, or humane treatment upon capture were one scenario, would you join. If death, injury, or torture upon capture were instead the scenario, would you join.
