I've been hanging around the people in the Richard III Society for so long, I've lost my perspective.
The Pro-Richard people would have me believe it was all a Tudor plot. They want me to believe that Richard was a nice guy, just misunderstood. He loved his brother, Edward IV, and would never hurt his children. He crowned himself king only to save the kingdom the clutches of Edward's wicked queen and her influence over her minor son. (That whole silly story about Edward having an unreported first marriage notwithstanding).
Anyway, there is documented evidence that Richard went before parliament to publicly speak to rumors about his incestuous designs on his niece. To me that showed that Richard cared about public relations. Well, if he cared about that particular rumor, why didn't he produce the princes for public display to quash the rumors that he had killed them?
I know Shakespeare's play is based on Thomas More's biography. And I believe Thomas More was influenced by Tudor spin. But I can't quite buy the theory that Henry Tudor had the princes killed upon taking the throne, blaming it all on Richard.
So to all you Richardian freaks out there, I'm not convinced of Richard's innocence. What say you?
