(Las Vegas, NV) The Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 525 & the Nevada Democratic Veterans & Military Families Caucus assembled more than 150 care packages for our troops on Saturday, August 25th. The care packages will be going to the Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany.
Army chaplains in Landstuhl collect items for our troops who have been wounded during combat in Iraq or Afghanistan and are in transit back to the United States. Our wounded troops even have to rely on donated phone cards in order to call home.
Fifty volunteers (including Assemblypersons Peggy Pierce, Joe Hogan, and David Parks) compiled more than 150 care packages filled up with donations from Nevada’s local unions, community members, and local businesses. Since May 26th, Nevada’s Democratic Veterans have built hundreds of care packages for our troops overseas. It is a true show of support for our men and women overseas, regardless of the countries’ divisions over the mission in Iraq. Sending care packages to our men and women overseas lifts the morale of our heroes whether they are engaged in combat, or recovering in the hospital.
Nevadans who could not attend the event Saturday still can help, said Veterans Caucus Chairman Elliot Anderson.
“Nevadans who want to do something special for our troops can go to our Web site 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and click on the ‘Support the Troops’ tab to find out directly from the troops what they need while in combat,” Anderson said.
