When asked the size of the Insurgency, we were given a figure last year.
Last year, Gen. John Abizaid, then commander of military forces in the region, estimated the Sunni insurgency to be 10,000 to 20,000 fighters. He said the Shiite militia members were in the "low thousands." The U.S. military hasn't publicly provided any recent estimates.
OK then, there are about 20,000 insurgents we have to fight against on the high side of the estimate. Now new military records show us two new pieces of information. Both which quite literally don't add up.
More on the flip.
Since the insurgency began after Baghdad fell in spring 2003, 19,429 militants have been killed in clashes with coalition forces, statistics show. The numbers do not include enemy killed during the invasion.
OK then, we have most likely then killed all of them. Or taken them prisoner.
There are 25,000 detainees in U.S. military custody in Iraq, according to the military.
Ok then. So if the number killed is 19,000 + 25,000 held then that means we have taken 44,000 insurgents out of action.
That should more than cover the 20,000 insurgents estimated.
But then this is the Bush Administration where the Clean Air Act makes more pollution. The No Child Left Behind leaves every child behind, and more violence is a sign of winning.
The fact is they just make this shit up because they know no one will fact check. No one will challenge a Bush appointee because that would be unpatriotic. There is little sense of honor or integrity-and so they lie with alacrity. They have lied so often and gotten away with it, what is there to lose?
Then again, this shouldn’t surprise you when nothing in this war adds up.
