It is dismaying that Tony Snow has been appointed as Bush's new Press Secretary. Why? Because, insofar as Snow is a right-wing idealogue who has occasionally criticized Bush only because he isn't far enough to the right, he will bring the opposite of what Bush and the nation sorely needs today. We need a conciliator, someone who will heal the nation's wounds and bring us together. If Bush had been smart (why am I not surprised that he wasn't?), he would have hired a moderate who, while sympathetic to him, would have found a way to win over the nation's hearts or at least smooth over the rough edges and make things more pleasant. What Snow will bring is the exact opposite, of course.
This tends to confirm (or to be consistent with) the hypothesis that Bush himself is a destructive human being, at his core, in the depths of his soul. If Bush wanted to be constructive and positive, he would have listened to the nation, and would have realized that it is time to be more of a "compassionate conservative" (what a load of crap that was), in order to govern more effectively and make good use of what remains of his shattered lame duck presidency.
Instead, what Bush is doing by hiring Snow is this: He is sending a signal to the US and to the world, that he is taking no prisoners, he is throwing down the gauntlet, in essence, he is giving the finger to the entire planet.
Why is this not surprising? Because, since his childhood, Bush has taken delight in destroying, injuring, and tormenting others. This is who he is, for whatever twisted and lamentable reasons that he became this way, whether he had brain damage from birth, was abused as a child, has suffered long-term ill effects from alcohol poisoning, or a combination of these and other factors.
What we must do now is realize what we are facing--like an animal trapped in a cage, or with its back against the wall, we are now going to have to fight a TYRANNICAL PRESIDENT who is going to fight for his very life, and who will not hesitate to bring about massive destruction if he fails, even if this means a pre-emptive nuclear attack.
There are, sadly, as anyone who has visited a State Prison or a hospital for the criminally insane knows, some people in this world who are simply bent on destruction. Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more evident every day that George W. Bush is such a man.
