I'll be honest here, I wasn't Clinton supporter. In fact I really didn't want to see her get the nomination. But, today the other front runners decided they really did not want my vote.
To me it's obvious they did this to send some kind of message to the all important Iowa voters. Well, they've sent me a message too, "We don't need you."
Well, If they don't need me now, I don't think they need me in general election either.
Call it sour grapes if you want, but as far as I'm concerned if any of the three who decided it would be a good idea to pull their names off the ballot today win the nomination they won't see my support beyond a vote in November.
No volunteering.
No money for them or the DNC.
Nothing.
I'm sure I'm not the only Democrat here in Michigan who looking at this news is deciding the same thing. I'll cast a ballot for them because well, I'm not voting for a Republican, I don't have that level of spite. But I certainly won't go out of my way to help them out if they feel like they can just skip out of letting me vote in the primary. They can ship in volunteers from Iowa or New Hampshire to help them campaign.
The primary was pushed up because of the perception that the early primaries were the only ones that mattered. In response these candidates have demonstrated not only is that the perception, it's now the reality.
Michigan is a state with a host of economic problems and the political idiocy in Lansing will likely turn out a ton of very angry voters next fall. Just this month we had a short term state shutdown because our state government couldn't work out a budget on time. People won't forget that by next year and we'll likely see quite the turnout of upset voters from both sides. On top of that bunch of likely angry voters you really want to let the GOP point out that the Democratic Candidate choose to snub Michigan in the primaries? Of course not, but that's what will happen if Edwards/Obama/Richardson nets the nomination at this point.
So, at this point I'll hold my nose and be supporting Clinton for the nomination, for no other reason then she's chosen not to write-off Michigan as not worthy of having her name on the ballot.
