Has Dennis Hastert even formally announced his resignation? Who cares? Illinois' favorite ultra-conservative millionaire struck out in the past trying to buy a U.S. Senate seat and a Governorship, so now he's set his sights on Dennis Hastert's still warm seat.
In fact, Hastert's resignation is still just a rumor attributed to "anonymous aides" at this time. Oberweiss has set his sights high in the past, so I wondered if he would settle for being one of 435 U.S. Representatives. Apparently Oberweiss doesn't think the House is beneath him, as this evening, on cable television, I saw an ad pimping Oberweiss for Congress.
Oberweiss has had his hat in the ring for a while; his ads started airing on local cable systems October 9th! The website his commercial pointed me at is fully up, and announced his 3Q fundraising numbers. For those of you wondering, Oberweiss spent $241,036.66 in the third quarter, raising 123K, including 27K from Oberweiss. As in past campaigns, Oberweiss isn't afraid to throw his own cash at the campaign - to date he's loaned his campaign $625,000.
IL-14 promises to be a serious race; at this point four Democrats and four Republicans have announced their candidacy for Hastert's old seat. (Kaneland County Chronicle)
